What the course is about

The course aims to develop your skills in portraiture by using a model, within a relaxed and supportive setting. Your tutor will introduce you to painting techniques and applications as well as helping you develop your skills, focusing on capturing the human form through direct observation, with the help of live models.

Topics may include:

  • Light and Dark
  • Mixing flesh tones
  • Modelling and Form
  • How to see and render colour.

This is a structured course including demonstrations, group and individual coaching. At times you may be given step-by-step instructions. A range of techniques and artists will be sampled in order to support learners’ individual style. Starting points may include both real life subjects and photographs, with a variety of subjects.

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

This workshop is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.
