What the course is about
This course builds on the content and skills in the Entry3 course. The areas covered are (1) enable learners to gain confidence and fluency in their use of digital knowledge and skills, and develop a positive attitude towards the use of digital skills; (2) enable learners to develop an appreciation of the importance of digital skills in the workplace and in life generally; (3) enable learners to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by applying these to complete tasks and activities; and (4) provide a basis for further study, work and life.
Details of this course:
- Using devices and handling information
- Search the internet and know what sponsored results mean
- Use a hierarchical folder structure to organise files and use an appropriate file naming.
- Save a file on cloud storage using one device and open it on another device.
- Know and be able to appropriately use terminology (including bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes) describing data storage requirements.
- Understand file compression
- Resolve issues e.g. reinstall an application, change Wi-Fi settings, change a system or software setting
- Creating and editing
- Be able to manipulate word-processed documents
- Edit an image including caption, crop, resize, change contrast etc
- Use simple formulae including sum, subtraction, multiplication, division, maximum, minimum, average
- Format numeric data (including font sizes, font styles, alignment, cell formatting, merging cells, splitting cells, row height, column width).
- Draw charts and label them including chart title, axis titles, data legends and data label
- Communicating
- Send e-mails
- Make video calls
- Understand how you create a digital footprint
- Transacting
- Manage account settings for an online service (including personal details, login credentials, marketing and communication preferences)
- Being safe and responsible online
- Understand key rights under data protection laws
- Know how to protect personal info e.g. restricting location services on a mobile GPS location Know how to backup files to the cloud.
- Know how to avoid exposure to malware (including worms, trojans and ransomware).
