What the course is about

This intensive 30-week GCSE Maths course follows the syllabus below:

Awarding body: AQA syllabus 8300 Foundation level

Assignments/Course work: No formally assessed coursework although regular homework will be set and marked

Examination(s): 3 x exam papers. 1 non-calculator (1hr 30 mins) and 2 with a calculator (both 1hr 30mins)

With the other learners in your class, you will cover a range of mathematical topics including:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics

You will learn to apply your Maths skills to everyday situations and will develop skills to make you more confident with numbers and mathematical concepts.

GCSE Maths will cover Foundation tier. Grades achievable at Foundation level will be 5 to 1, equivalent to C to G. The classroom teaching will be aimed at Foundation Level. 

A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work.

Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work. This is an intense course and significant home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course.

You will be supported to develop good study skills. Homework will be regularly set and you will be expected to complete this in order to retain your place on the course.
