What the course is about

This course is aimed at absolute beginners and no previous of experience of ICT is needed. However, it is also suitable for learners who have previous experience of ICT but it is out of date or who would like to build up their confidence before going onto higher level courses. The course has 7 weekly session of 3 hours each. The course develops basic IT skills and then develops confidence in internet searches and form completion through the context of job applications. Learners will complete three units and the content of each is explained below.

The learner will:

  1. Be able to use hardware
  • Recognise the main parts of an ICT system
  • Use hardware

2 Be able to use a software application

  • Name two software applications and their uses
  • Use a software application for an agreed purpose
  • Input information
  • Present information for the agreed purpose

3 Be able to follow recommended safe operating practices

  • List safety points to be remembered when using an ICT system
  • Follow safe practices

The learner will:

1 Know different ways of applying for jobs

  • List different ways of applying for jobs

2 Be able to apply for a job

  • give examples of information needed to apply for a job
  • complete an application for a job.

The learner will:

1 Know where to find work opportunities

  • identify where to look for job opportunities
  • list different types of employment

2 be able to search for job vacancies

  • identify a job vacancy
  • list the key points of a job vacancy
  • match job vacancies to own skills

3 Be able to recognise own skills in realtion to a job vacancy

  • list own skills relevant to a job vacancy
