What the course is about

The course aims to develop your skills in portraiture by using a model, within a relaxed and supportive setting, while gaining a qualification. Your tutor will introduce you to painting techniques and applications as well as helping you develop your skills, you will take inspiration from historical and contemporary portrait artists, along with focusing on capturing the human form through direct observation, with the help of live models.

Topics covered may include:

  • Light and Dark
  • Mixing flesh tones
  • Modelling and Form
  • How to see and render colour

As part of this course, you will be building a portfolio of work and are encouraged to complete research and practice your skills at home.

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.
